Auckland, Bay of Islands, Taupo, Banks Peninsula, Queenstown
Day 1-3: Auckland. City of Sails, which you can see flapping in the wind on a harbour cruise. Or make for the cool North Shore or Bohemian Ponsonby with its hip cafes and restaurants.
Day 3-6: Bay of Islands. A subtropical area with beautiful beaches, picturesque islands dotted over dazzling clean waters, kauri forests, fishing and golf.
Day 6-8: Taupo. An area of pristine nature. Try trout fishing, head off for a cruise on Lake Taupo, or visit Rotorua with geyers bubbling and puffing.
Day 8-10: Banks Peninsula. Originally two volcanoes forming an island, now joined to the mainland with spectacular bays, seaside villages, walking trails, boutique galleries and cafes.
Day 10-14: Queenstown. Surrounded by alpine mountains beside a clear lake. Trout fishing. Wine and gourmet food. Perhaps a day trip by air to experience Milford Sound. Or, for adrenalin junkies, heliskiing, heliboarding, jetboating on the Dart River, bungy, mountain biking.
